I have no words—none!
nor images that move me
to write a poem about.

on the days when I am not a poet
I sit too long at the computer
reading email,
responding to email,
deleting sent email,
writing new email
looking up weather
in the city I’ve left,
and checking the files
of my best poetry
hoping to be inspired.

on the days I am not a poet
nothing rouses my spirit,
opens my trove of dreams,
desires, joys, despair—
all or any of which
on the days when I am a poet
I would be writing about.
