Terrifying—to depend
on what cannot be seen
like being asked—to cross a canyon
tightrope—woven string

The eyes then—deceive
Trepidation—as it seeps—
fills the limbs and fires

Fear trickles on—down the fingertips

Adrenaline—sets the muscles—
subverts intellect
prepares the lungs for inhalation—
overtakes the heart

Burden colors. Expectation—
tears intent apart.

To quiet then—and take a step
to still and lock the eyes
to set a point—ignore a distance—aim
horizon line

is surrender to a faith—unproven
until need
when hindsight—nor recognition
remedies Belief

“A not admitting of the wound”
which brought the Spectre down
like syllables—without the words
a fall—without the sound
