This poem was written during Writing Class Radio‘s Wednesday night’s First Draft memoir-writing session. First Draft is an online writing group that meets every week on Tuesday at 12PM EST and Wednesday at 7PM EST for one hour on Zoom. The writers write to a prompt for approximately 20 minutes, and 2-3 people share what they wrote. The other writers provide gentle critiques. During one Wednesday night session, the writers wrote to a one-minute prompt. This acrostic poem is the result.
What is Home?
Home is a place of comfort. A harbor. My safe place to rest away from the wind and rain with my husband and cats.
Oh hell! What is home? A place to hang my toothbrush and let my hair down after it’s been rolled up so tight from the mess, the kids, the debt, and the desire to be better organized; It’s
My personal heaven where only few are invited, where I can wear my jammies or walk in my skivvies, and the
Ethereal essence of life in the one place I call my own.
Home is a place of comfort. A harbor. My safe place to rest away from the wind and rain with my husband and cats.
